A Visial History of the Silicon Forest

In 2002, I collected data about more than 370 high-technolgogy companies in Portland, Oregon. With the help of Portland State University design student Kayoko Teramoto I visualized the data on the Silicon Forest Universe Poster.


The poster depicst the genealogy of firms and the centrality of Tektronix and Intel.

Starting to collect data...

I just returned from two research field trips. I traveled to Boise and to Phoenix to interview high-technology executives, economic development practitioners and others who have insights into the evolution of these regions as high-tech locations. I would like to thank all the interviewees for sharing their time and insights with me.
